It is a very walkable city
The first great thing about Edinburgh is that it is a very walkable city. Whether you are looking to visit the castle, head down the shopping streets, or take a walk to one of the Museums, it’s very easy to do so. There are a few hills, particularly to get to the castle, so sensible footwear is a must in order to do this as comfortably as possible! Many hotels are in the centre making it easier than ever to have a great base while you explore.
There is a great foodie scene
Edinburgh is a city where food is at its core. You should take your time to find some of the great foodie spots, from quaint little bakeries, to bustling restaurants and afternoon tea buses, there is something for everyone. We recommend The Witchery by the Castle, Dishoom, Makara Mash Bar and more if you want to experience some of the best restaurants and eateries. Of course when in Scotland, be sure to try some typical food such as Haggis, neeps and tatties, Scotch broth, black pudding and of course shortbread! You could also make up a picnic and go for a hike up to Arthur’s Seat for a stunning viewpoint.
There is so much to do
As well as the above, Edinburgh is a city with plenty to do. Edinburgh Castle of course has to be on your list, so does Holyrood Park, Carlton Hill and Royal Mile, a famous street of shops where you can get souvenirs, clothes and other items. Victoria Street is another beautiful place to add to your list and is said to have been the inspiration behind Diagon Alley in Harry Potter. There are also a myriad of museums to go to – why not do an open top bus tour of the city so you can get your bearings?
