    You may have decided that this year is the year you get on top of your health and wellbeing. There is so much guidance and headlines in the media that you may not know what will make a difference to your health. It is sometimes best to go back to basics with your health as you know you can’t go wrong.

    Be Proactive

    Being on top of your health isn’t just about setting the right foundation with healthy habits. It’s also about proactively checking for signs and symptoms that could be bad news. 

    Every person should know how to check their moles for suspicious signs, and then how to get a skin cancer mole check appointment booked. Or if you have breast tissue, you should know how to check it for lumps and bumps. 
    These can be scary things to do, but they could very well help you to lead a healthy and happy life for much longer.

    Drink Enough Water

    There is one thing that will keep you on top of the health game, that’s drinking enough water. As your body is made up of a high percentage of water, you will regularly lose this throughout the day. It is essential you replace the water you have lost otherwise you can face the effects of dehydration. As an adult you need to be drinking about two liters of water each day. While this can sometimes seem tricky and impossible, there are ways to manage this. You could use flavoured water pods for example, these typically come with added vitamins and nutrients.

    Eat The Right Foods

    Another thing to do is eat the right foods and not overindulge in junk food. Having a treat meal is great every so often as you are only human and you have your enjoyments. Try and have a balanced meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This should incorporate all the vital food groups including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, dairy, fruits, and vegetables. If you are struggling with what to eat or portion control then speak to a dietician or nutritionist. 

    Move More

    There is one sure fire way of staying on top of your heath and that is to move around more. You should ideally try and incorporate at least 45 minutes of vigorous exercise to notice a difference. When you exercise, your body is busy releasing happy hormones that encourage you to continue. It is essential you find something you enjoy doing, otherwise you won’t want to keep it up for very long.     Meet Up With Friends

    If your friends have been asking you to go out and socialise then you should take them up on this offer. It can be so tempting to stay at home all comfy in your pajamas, however, this can lead to a downward spiral with your health. Studies have shown that going out and socialising with your friends can cut your risk of developing cognitive decline as you get older. 

    Get Enough Sleep

    Lastly, monitor how much solid sleep you are getting each night. As an adult you need to be aiming for around six to eight hours, if you don’t get this then you can find yourself walking around constantly tired. There can be many reasons behind waking up during the night including young children, uncomfortable mattress, or various aches and pains. Whatever the reason, a strong nighttime routine could make all the difference.
