Cars can be a lot of fun, not only are they practical for getting around but there’s plenty you can do with them as a hobby as well. If you’re car mad or just looking for a new way to spend your time, here are some ideas you might enjoy, especially if you’re a practical or hands on person.
Go on road trips
If it’s driving that you love as much as cars and you want to make the most of the weather, this is usually one of the best ways to do it! You could drive your own car in the country you live in and check out popular road trip routes online, or you could go abroad and hire a car instead. You could hire something vintage or a muscle car or maybe a convertible, just something you love that makes the trip extra fun. It could be a day or two driving from one place to another or a full driving holiday, but either way it’s a great way to combine your love of cars with summer sunshine.
Start a project car
Have you always loved the idea of buying a car and doing it up to make it exactly what you want? You could start with a body that’s practically scrap and then build it up or maybe you could buy something that’s already in working order from a used car dealer and modify it to make it even better. You could add some cosmetic modifications like a paint job or vinyl wrap, or you could make it more economical like looking into new stop start batteries and braking system. Or you might want to make it more powerful with things like engine upgrades depending on what you goals are. It’s a great way to keep yourself busy and pick up new skills along the way. Having a finished car that you’ve worked hard on and customised to suit you is super fulfilling once it’s done.
Going to a car meet
If you’re part of a forum or Facebook motoring group, keep an eye out for privately held events too. These tend to be a little more intimate and give you more chance to chat with people who share the same interests as you. These meets are often organised around specific types of cars (eg, classic cars, Japanese cars etc) so you usually have something in common straight away. You might want to book a track day together or a long drive in the country with stops, or just meet and chat.
