You do not have to be stuck in a house that you don’t actually like. For some reason, we seem to be under the impression that there isn’t much that we can do to change our homes, sometimes because we are on a budget, and other times because there don’t seem to be enough hours in the day. This isn’t true though. There are plenty of things that you can do to ensure that your home brings you more joy, it’s just about figuring out which ones appeal to you the most, and which ones are possible right now.
It’s a good idea to make a plan for the future also, so that you know where you are heading with the changes in your home. Some people aren’t a fan of planning ahead, we understand that, but it really is the best option for you. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look into some of the different ways that you can make your home bring you more joy, so if you would like to find out more, feel free to read on.

Declutter
The idea of this one might not bring you joy because it can be quite a big task, but let us tell you that the reality of having a clear home is incredible. You’re not tripping over things every couple of minutes, your home looks clean and tidy rather than full of items you don’t need, and you will find that your mind feels clearer also. If you’ve heard of the phrase ‘tidy space, tidy mind’, but you’ve never experienced it, hopefully after you’ve decluttered, you can.
The thing with decluttering is that yes, it takes a long time, but it’s also worth every single second you spend doing it. Start at one end of your home and then work your way around, room by room, until you’re done. Use the same system for each room, and you should have this done in just a few days.
Deep Clean
Once you have decluttered, the next step is to deep clean. Now that you can actually see all of these areas of your home because they are not hidden under so much stuff you didn’t need, you will find deep cleaning your home to be much easier. The same as with decluttering though, to keep things organized and simple for you, we do recommend starting at one end of the home, and going room by room until you finish.
Ensure that you are scrubbing the floors, the walls, the skirting boards, any appliances, cleaning furniture, washing windows, and making everything sparkling. Take down the curtains and wash them, strip the beds and get them cleaned, steam the mattresses, go through wardrobes, and so much more. We’re not going to lie to you, for a proper deep clean it’s likely going to take you a few days to get it all done, but it’s worth it.
Carry Out Repairs
If you know there are repairs that need doing, why have they not been done yet? There is no good reason for this. The longer that you leave repairs to fester, the worse they are going to get, the harder they are going to be to fix, and the more damage they are likely to cause. So, you need to make a list of repairs, and then get them sorted out as soon as you can. You might have to prioritize if you’re on a budget, or do some of the simpler ones yourself, but that’s okay.
One of the most important repairs that you’re going to have to make when necessary is your roof. You absolutely cannot leave your roof vulnerable or damaged, and if you’re concerned that this is the case right now, you need to either get up there and have a look, or hire a roof inspection company to look for you. From there, you can decide what the best course of action is. The same goes for all other repairs in your home, check them out, make a plan, fix them.

Sort The Garden
Another thing to consider is sorting out your garden, the last thing you want is a nice interior and then a shabby looking garden. If your garden has seen better days then it is time to provide it with some TLC. It might be that you want to swap your real grass for astro turf, this will save you some time. Astro turf doesn’t ever need mowing but it does need looking after. You will need to hoover it or sweep it every so often to keep it in good condition. The company you buy it from will give you advice on how to look after it and how long it should last before needing to be replaced.
Paint The Exterior
Next task to do outside is to paint the exterior. If you have wooden siding on your home then this can start to look unkept after not too long. It is essential you keep up to date with the maintenance on it, this might be a deciding factor when you are shopping around to buy a home. If you don’t want to constantly be working with the upkeep then it might be best to avoid it.
However, if this is on your home then a simple paint job will give it some life and bring it back up to date. If you don’t have the time or the equipment and tools to do this then you can pay someone to do it for you. They will ask you to provide the paint you want but they will have everything else, like ladders and brushes.
Add A Home Office
Another point worth thinking about is adding a home office to your property. This is particularly useful if you are currently operating with a hybrid business model. This means that you need the right space to ensure that you can remain productive in the future and stay on target. This is often easier said than done, but there are steps that you can take to create the ultimate home office. For instance, you might want to think about building a garden studio. This is perfect because it is going to be separate from your home while also adding value to the property overall. It’s also a great way to ensure that you stay in touch with nature, even while you are working, which isn’t always easy to do. But with a garden studio, it’s possible, particularly, if you explore glass walls and similar possibilities.
Bring Nature Inside
Lastly, don’t be afraid to bring nature inside. Greenery can not only look nice and bring you joy but it can also help clear the air of toxins. You can either have real plants or fake plants, whatever your preference is. Be aware, you might want to be careful that your fake plants don’t look fake.
Bringing nature inside has so many benefits, make sure you are watering them if you have real plants dotted around the place. The last thing you want is to come home and find them wilting or dying due to heat and lack of water.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key steps that can ensure that your home is going to bring you more joy in the future. In doing so you can guarantee that your property is a fantastic haven filled with everything that you know and love while providing the practical benefits that you are looking for in your home.
