Everyone wants their home to be as safe as possible. It’s why they’ll invest in security systems, alarms, and locks on their doors. While these are all great, they don’t address all of the home safety threats you could experience. There could be more of these than you’re aware of.

If you want to make sure you’re truly safe, you’ll need to address some of the more obvious of these. You could already be thinking of home repairs that could pose a risk.

Beyond that, there are several others you’ll need to be aware of. They could pose a risk to your health and multiple other areas. While the chances of getting hurt could be relatively small, they could still be higher than you would’ve wanted.

Five of these could be more of a risk than you’d think, making them more than worth dealing with.

    Your Backyard Pool

A backyard pool is obviously a great way to enjoy warmer weather. If not properly secured, however, it can also pose serious safety risks. Unsupervised access and slippery surfaces are common hazards for children and adults alike. Even if it looks like you have a safe pool area, it’s a good idea to review safety features with a professional. A reliable pool company, for example, will be able to assess potential dangers and recommend upgrades. Proactive will prevent accidents a lot better.

    Unstable Furniture

Your furniture could pose more of an injury threat than you’d think. If not properly stable, then certain pieces of furniture could fall over and hurt someone. This typically happens with TVs and other objects placed on top of cabinets and shelves. You’ll have to make sure this doesn’t have the chance of happening.

Making sure all of your furniture is stable before placing anything on it. Avoid placing it on any uneven surfaces so they don’t wobble or move when anything’s placed on it. Maintaining your furniture to avoid any potential issues is also a great way to prevent this.

    Kitchen Appliances

Make sure that you pay attention to your kitchen appliances as they can pose a safety hazard if you are not careful. Appliances that are malfunctioning may cause burnt sockets. You may also get electrical shocks if cords are frayed. Make sure that you examine your appliances carefully. It’s always best to do a mini kitchen remodel if you notice that your appliances are outdated. You don’t even have to buy brand new ones, second hand appliances that are in good condition will work well, especially if they are an upgrade from the ones that you currently have.

    Electronic Devices

The electronic devices around your home could pose a noticeable risk to your home. A lot of this is when they’re not properly maintained, which could end up leading to a significant fire risk. Make sure you prevent that by actually looking after your appliances and making sure there aren’t any problems.

Keeping any electronic device running constantly can also pose a risk. You can avoid this relatively easily, though. If you disconnect your internet connection at night and take similar steps with other devices, you shouldn’t have to worry about it. You’ll avoid problems with plugs and other areas.

    Poorly Stored Chemicals

Chemical products are some of the more threatening ones around your home, especially to children and pets. If these aren’t stored the right way, your kids or pests could try to consume them. This leads to countless health implications, and it might even lead to death if too much of it is consumed.

Avoid this at all costs. The easiest way to do this is to make sure they’re stored out of reach of your kids and pets (veterinarians like Dr. Cindy Maro can help you if you think your pet has been exposed to something toxic). Since they wouldn’t be able to reach them, there’s no way they could pose any kind of risk.

    Home Trampolines

Trampolines can be a great investment when you have kids, and they’ll have quite a bit of fun on it. It’s easy to see why. That doesn’t mean they’re the safest thing you can get for your kids. There’s always a possibility they could fall off and get hurt. If they land the wrong way, too, they could hurt themselves even more.

If you decide to get a trampoline for your kids, make sure it’s as safe as possible. Supervising your kids when they’re using it is recommended. You could also put up netting to catch them before they fall off.

    Window Blinds

While you mightn’t expect window blinds to be dangerous, they could pose more of a risk than you would’ve thought. There are countless reports of people – especially children – getting tangled up on them. This could cause an injury, and it even poses the risk of death in unfortunate circumstances.

The cords of your window blinds cause the most risk here. Thankfully, it doesn’t take too much time or effort to address this. You’ll just need to properly secure the cord, and you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. It should only take a few minutes to do.

Nobody wants their home to be unsafe. It’s why they’ll put the time and effort into certain areas. CCTV, alarm systems, and locks will be the most obvious of these. While these address some of the more obvious threats to your home, they’re far from the only areas to consider.

Instead, there are more than a few other home safety threats you might need to be aware of. While the risks associated with these could be relatively small, there’s still a risk associated with them. Make sure you get rid of any risk they could pose to your home. And if that’s not possible, or you’re worried that you might need some extra assistance, why not consider retirement villages if you’re at the right age? Safer, more secure, and with plenty to do, they could be the ideal answer.
